Heat is the primary enemy. LED efficacy drops and lifespan shortens as junction temperatures rise. In the Southwest, ambient temperatures regularly exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit, which means fixtures installed on rooftops, parking structures, and exterior walls face thermal conditions that products designed for moderate climates cannot handle. Dimming compatibility. 0-10V, DALI, DMX, and phase-cut dimming all behave differently, and the driver components must match the control protocol the fixture supports. Getting this wrong causes visible flicker, reduced dimming range, or outright failure.
